After a black man was freed, one of the most important things in the Constitution was that he would have freedom of religion. Before that time, there were no churches or freedom of worship. As you go to church each Sunday, you can see we have come a long way with all of the beautiful churches, but we are a long way from being finished because God’s work is never finished.
In the early 1900’s, we are told a group of sawmill workers were cutting logs on what is known as the Leach Farm. This place was located near a spring, and it was from this spring that they got their drinking water, and a little ways from the spring was a big oak tree. At this time, this was the gathering place to worship God. In talking to some of the older generations of this church, the first church was built in this area, which was called “Brush Harbor.” This name Leach Springs came from the family that owned the land whose name was Leach. This is how the church name became Leach Springs. There is not a recorded date of this church actually being built except that it was a board frame church located behind our present cemetery. There are two (2) cemeteries for Leach Springs. After this initial church was built, members were still buried in the first cemetery. Tradition was that it was bad luck to bury a person in the cemetery first, so they buried a log and prepared it like a real funeral.
In 1922 approximately, a new church was built in this area, as best remembered, Rev. Malloy Wright was pastor at that time. He pastored here twice along with Rev. L. H. McDonald. The population consisted of about seventy-five (75) members (at this time, there were more, older members than younger).
In 1942, that church was torn down and a new cinder block church was built. The founders of this church were Mr. Charlie Smith and Mr. Will Morgan. This church was built by Mr. Nick Rogers. Members that could afford it, bought 100 blocks each to help build the church. Rev. A. C. Jones was the first pastor of this church. The known past pastors of this church were:
| Rev. Malloy Wright | Rev. Boone | Rev. McKoy |
| Rev. A. C. Jones | Rev. Huff | Rev. Rainey |
| Rev. Urn | Rev. Humphrey | Rev. L. H. McDonald |
| Rev. James Johnson | Rev. Walker | Rev. Sam McDonald |
| Rev. Hargrove | Rev. Yurine | Rev. Louis Melvin |
| Rev. Franklin Wooten | Rev. James Cohill | Rev. Reginald Wells |
| Rev. John T. Johnson | Rev. Reginald Wells | Rev. George W. Gilmore |
| Rev. Dr. Gary H. Cannon | Rev. Bruce Hurst (presently serving) | |
